For an experimental creation at Le Cube – independent art room, the summer’s lab receives this summer the artist Mohamed Arejdal, graduate of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan in 2009.
“I could lay the groundwork for a multi-disciplinary practice through which I explore the relationships that bind us to the Other. Performance holds a special position, for it requires an obvious physical and sensory commitment and gives all its importance to the role of the spectator. My research takes various forms: from live performance to installation, video and photography.”
“My recent works evoke stories of encounters that emerge from subtle displacements and aim at highlighting all that separates and gathers individuals.
Thus, public spaces become places of intimate encounters; familial objects for some, a part of daily life for others; and my own body, being the site of a permanent confrontation.
I explore also the way in which we inhabit spaces, share the territories of the latter, and most of all, the manner in which these parameters reconfigure unceasingly our relation to the other.
In this way, I hope that little anecdotes of daily life can become universal parables that would slowly redraw the boundaries of cultural, mental and social spaces.”
After a first residence in Le Cube with the project PLPAC, in collaboration between the French Institute of Rabat and Le Cube, Arejdal will stay during July and August at Le Cube to continue his research and reflection to develop his artistic approach.
