As part of the summer’s lab residency, the artist Jamila Lamrani has used the space of Le Cube during summer, in order to realize experimentations and exclusive productions.

The work that she has been able to do marks a first stage of several projects :
On the one hand, the two installations, La veuve (the widow) and La mariée (the bride), are of a fascinating poetic force. Branches dyed in black, tulle and lace, are elements that characterize the work of Jamila Lamrani, and which are integrated in the field of photography so as to give shape to installations that are fragile, but imposing at the same time.

This period of research has also been perfectly effective for the conception of Afrique, an installation joining photography, to sculpture and sound. This artistic piece wishes to open debates on complex situations that Africa confronts, as it wishes to invite to digging strategies, perspectives, new reflections.

At the end, as part of this Summer’s lab, Jamila Lamrani has also drawn the outline of a visual and sonorous installation, Le peuple veut (the populace wants), an installation that is strong with its politically engaged message, in reaction to the Arab Spring. This project refers to the poem Iradat Al-hayat / The will to live, written in September 1933, by Abou El Kacem Chebbi, major figure in Arab literature. This Tunisian Poet was invested since a very early age, in the treatment of themes such as freedom, love and resistance.

The projects developed by Jamila Lamrani, which are part of the Summer’s Lab, have been presented in numerous exhibitions taking place both in Morocco and the international, among which is the Biennale de Dakar 2012 and the Institut des Cultures d’Islam.
