Siré Camara

Siré Camara is a musician-story teller. He lived for fifteen years in France.

Since he was a university student of history and sociology, he has been working in the community sector as a socio-cultural animator.
Then his interest in story telling grew, and he founded the association griots urbains in Montreuil which has been promoting African tales and musical instruments since then.

From the year 2002 to 2006, he had been traveling regularly to Mauritania. During that period, he was in contact with young Mauritanians who felt disconnected from any cultural exchanges.
To face this situation, he settled in the capital Nouakchott in 2006 and decided to open a space for exchanges and meetings on the basis of the cultural diversity of Mauritania (Moorish and Negro-African communities):  the Espace Culturel Diadié Tabara Camara. There, he develops socio-educational and artistic activities.
Among the major annual activities in Mauritania is the Festival des Sagesses Populaires which involves young people and schools to showcase the heritage (stories, lullabies, music, proverbs…)
