Randa Maroufi
Born in 1987, in Casablanca, Morocco, she graduated from l’Institut National des Beaux-Arts of Tetouan, l’École Supérieure des Beaux- Arts of Angers (France), and Fresnoy (France).
Randa Maroufi belongs to the generation that coincided with the reign of images. She collects them with as much avidity as mistrust, and constantly questions their veracity. Her research is on both the reportage, cinema and sociological studies. She pursues the latter through the creation of ambiguous fictions that she puts at the service of the real. Her field of experimentations extends from the occupation of public space to the questioning of gender and the identification of the mechanism of its construction.
Her work that essentially consists of photographs, videos, performances, and sounds was presented during more than 200 major events of contemporary art and cinema, like the Biennale of Marrakesh (2014), the Biennale for photography of Bamako (2015), the Museum of Modern Art in New York (2016), the Dubai Photo Exhibition (2016), the Festival International du Film of Rotterdam (2016), the Videonale Bonn (2017), the Biennale of Sharjah in Beirut (2017), etc.
Her film Le Park has received more than twenty international awards and is part of the photography-video collection of the Centre National des Arts Plastiques (CNAP).
She lives and works in Clichy. She is an artist member of the Académie de France la Casa de Velázquez, for the year 2017/2018.
