Farid Zahi

After he obtained his BA in general philosophy, a Ph.D. in Arab and Islamic civilizations studies, as well as a Ph.D. in literature, Farid Zahi joined the field of teaching. Since the seventies, he has published essays on Arab literature, the body and the image in Islam, modern and contemporary Arab art. His research is focused mostly on issues related to the body and the image in the Arab world, both in the past and present.

Some of his publications are : Le Corps, le sacré et l’image en Islam (in Arabic, 1999), D’un regard l’autre, l’art et ses médiations au Maroc (2006) ; Le Corps de l’autre (2011), Positions, compositions. Écrits sur l’art (2011) ; Image et altérité (in Arabic, 2013) ; Les Métamorphoses de l’image (2015) ; La séduction des sens (in Arabic, 2016) …

He has also translated several reference texts in philosophy, anthropology and sociology. This got him to win the prize Maroc de la traduction, in 2009. Indeed, he translated texts by Jacques Derrida, Abdelkébir Khatibi, Henry Corbin, Michel Maffesoli, David Le Breton and others…

He published numerous fine books on Youssif Ahmed, La collection de la BCM, Gharbaoui, Kacimi, and wrote in different catalogues of Moroccan and international artists…

For five years, he had been an artistic advisor for Bank Al-Maghrib and has organized and curated many exhibitions of pioneers of Moroccan art and young artists/creators at the BAM Museum.

Currently, he is the director of the Institut Universitaire de la Recherche Scientifique, Mohamed V university in Rabat.
